Contains small amounts of correspondence, speeches, reports, articles, notes, awards, clippings, and other printed materials relating to the work of Dr. Jessie Bierman in Montana, California, and internationally, particularly in the areas of maternal and child health. Also includes correspondence and printed materials relating to her endowments for the Flathead Lake (Mont.) Biological Station, as well as articles about her father, Henry Bierman, Montana pioneer and businessman.

Dr. Jessie M. Bierman, a native of Kalispell, graduated in 1921 from Montana State University, and received her M.D. from Rush Medical College at the University of Chicago and a masters in public health from Columbia University. She traveled in Europe and Asia on health missions for public and private agencies during periods of leave from the University of California where, from 1947 to 1963, Bierman served as professor of maternal and child health in the School of Public Health, and lecturer in pediatrics in the School of Medicine. She served as chief of the World Health Organization's Section of Maternal and Child Health from 1956-1957, and was chief of the Calif. State Dept. of Public Health, Section of Maternal and Child Health prior to joining the University of California faculty.
